License Key Invalid or Expired

In the docs

If Prosper202 sends you to a page that says your license key is missing or expired, or says your key is invalid when you save it, this guide explains what the check does, what each message means and how to fix it. It applies to Prosper202 ClickServer 1.9.78.

Your tracking keeps running

The license check only guards the dashboard. Click redirects, pixels and postbacks don't check the key, so clicks and conversions keep being recorded while the dashboard is locked. Nothing is lost while you fix the key.

What the license key is

The license key is your Prosper202 Customer API key, from your account at my.tracking202.com. It links your install to that account (see Step 0). It is not one of the API keys you create inside Prosper202 under My Account > Personal Settings > API keys; those are for the Prosper202 REST API.

Prosper202 asks my.tracking202.com whether the key is valid at these moments:

  • when you open the dashboard (once a key is accepted, it isn't checked again until you sign in again; a refused key is checked on every page);
  • when the setup wizard installs Prosper202;
  • when you save a key under My Account > Personal Settings, or on the license key page.

The messages and what they mean

WhereMessageWhat it means
Instead of the dashboardYour license key is missing or expiredNo key is saved, or my.tracking202.com refused the saved one. The page has a field to enter a key.
Same page, when a key is savedA key is saved (…) but it does not validate: it may have expired, or the license service may be unreachable. Enter a new key to replace it.The saved key was refused. The page shows its first 8 and last 4 characters, so you can compare it with the key in your account.

License key page or Personal SettingsThe key could not be checked with Tracking202 just now, so nothing was saved. Try again in a minute.Your server got no usable answer from my.tracking202.com. This is a connection problem, not a bad key.

Cause 1: The key is mistyped or out of date

A key copied with a missing character, or an old key that is no longer the one on your account, is refused.

Fix: sign in at my.tracking202.com and open Account & API key from the account menu (my.tracking202.com/api/customers/settings). Copy the key under Your API Key, or use the Save API Key to Prosper202 button there. On the license key page, the Get your API key link takes you to the same account. Paste the key, click Save license key, then sign in again.

Make sure you are signed in to the my.tracking202.com account the install belongs to. That account login is separate from your Prosper202 login (see the FAQ).

Cause 2: Your account isn't on the CPM* Newsletter

For accounts created on or after 1 October 2026 that have no active Prosper202 Pro subscription or trial, the dashboard can stay locked until the account's e-mail address is on the free CPM* Newsletter. An active Pro subscription or trial skips this step. Until it is, the key is refused and you see the same messages as for a wrong key.

Fix: join the CPM* Newsletter with the same e-mail address as your my.tracking202.com account. The download page in your account does it in one click (see Installation). Then save the key again, or sign out of Prosper202 and back in.

Cause 3: Your server cannot reach my.tracking202.com

Prosper202 checks the key from your server, not from your browser, over HTTPS. The check fails when the server:

  • cannot make outbound HTTPS connections (port 443) to my.tracking202.com, for example because of a firewall or a host that blocks outgoing requests;
  • has out-of-date CA certificates, so it cannot verify my.tracking202.com's certificate. Prosper202 always verifies it and won't accept an answer it can't verify.

When the check gets no answer, the setup wizard and the key forms refuse to save the key and say so. When you open the dashboard and the check gets no answer, Prosper202 lets you in rather than lock you out.

Fix: from a terminal on the server that runs Prosper202, run:

curl -sSI https://my.tracking202.com/

Any HTTP status line means the connection and certificate are fine. A timeout, a connection error or a certificate error is the problem to fix, or to send to your host: allow outbound HTTPS to my.tracking202.com and update the server's CA certificates. Then try saving the key again.

Not a cause: your Pro subscription

For accounts created before 1 October 2026, a paid Prosper202 Pro subscription does not decide whether the dashboard opens: a valid key opens it with or without one. For newer accounts, an active Pro subscription or trial removes the CPM* Newsletter requirement in Cause 2; once it has ended, the newsletter requirement applies again. A subscription matters for the p202 command line and AI app connections, which check the same key for a Pro licence (a 7-day trial counts); see Prosper202 Pro.

Before you contact us

Check that you are on the current release; older versions aren't supported, and the upgrade guide covers moving to 1.9.78. If you have copied a fresh key from your account, your account's e-mail is on the CPM* Newsletter (if your account was created on or after 1 October 2026 and has no active Pro subscription or trial), and the curl test above works from your server, but the key is still refused, contact us: Help and Support says how to reach us and what our support plans include. Tell us the message you see and the first 8 and last 4 characters of the key, never the whole key.
