Dynamic CPC Bids

In the docs

By default, every click on a tracking link gets the same cost: the CPC you set for that link in Step 8. With dynamic CPC, your traffic source tells Prosper202 what each click actually cost, by filling its bid or cost token into the tracking link, and Prosper202 records that amount as the click's cost. Your cost, profit and ROI then come from what each click cost, not from one estimate for the whole link.

Setting it up

  1. Go to Personal Settings and, under Profile > Advanced, set Cost data preference to Pickup Bid dynamically from t202b variable. The default, Pickup Bid from setup data, ignores the token and uses the CPC from Step 8.
  2. In Step 8, choose Per click (CPC) under Cost and enter an amount. Prosper202 falls back to it when a click arrives without a usable bid.
  3. Under Advanced in Step 8, enter your traffic source's bid or cost token in Bid (dynamic CPC) token. Prosper202 adds it to the tracking link as the t202b parameter. Check your traffic source's documentation for the right token, as not every source has one.

When a click arrives, Prosper202 reads t202b, drops a leading $, and records the number as the click's cost, to 5 decimal places. If t202b is missing or isn't a number, the click gets the CPC from Step 8.

Passing the cost on

Two Prosper202 tokens carry the click's recorded cost into the URLs Prosper202 fills in, such as your campaign URL (Step 3), a landing page URL, or a traffic source's pixel or postback URL (Step 1):

  • [[cpc]] is the click's cost rounded to 2 decimal places.
  • [[cpc2]] is the click's cost as recorded, not rounded. Use it when costs are fractions of a cent, as with PPV traffic.
