Hi,

If I turn on AW autotagging, does it create any clashes with prosper?

Thanx.

I'am not familiar with AW autotagging? I'm not even sure what that is to be honest, not sure what to say there. I guess you'll have to give it a shot?

Hi Wes!

AW autotagging is used to link between AW and analytics.

AW automatically appends a param called gclid to your ad urls:

mysite.com/?t202id=123&t202kw=some%20keyword?gclid=xyz

Would it interfere? Or Prosper parses urls using fixed field names?

No it looks like you could do it, but the URL needs to be properly formed.

mysite.com/?t202id=123&t202kw=some%20keyword?gclid=xyz

should be

mysite.com/?t202id=123&t202kw=some%20keyword&gclid=xyz

--- the question mark denotes, the beginning of "GET" variables int he URL, and then each & denotes the beginning of a new variable ie:

myurl.com?var1=hello&var2=world&var3=hello&var4=world

var1 = hello

var2 = world

var3 = hello

var4 = world

so in the case before:

---

mysite.com/?t202id=123&t202kw=some%20keyword?gclid=xyz

you'd want that to be &gclid, instead of ? mark, because that should be in the front (notice how there is already one) ?t202id

--

Or u can flip it around

mysite.com/?gclid=xyz&t202id=123&t202kw=some%20keyword

--

If that didn't confuse you enough, yes you can do it, just make sure the URLs are formated properly.

Simply remember to start GET variables to be passed in the URL, it starts out with ?, and then each variable after that starts with and &

refer to the example above: or search GET variables on google to learn more!

Hi,

I am having a similar problem.

Basically with autotagging Google is passing a variable (gclid) when a user clicks on an ad. This is used by Google Analytics so it can distinguish the traffic as PPC rather than organic and so you can track the two separately (important).

Unfortunately with the way tracking202 is working at the moment the click through URL for me is something like:

http://****.***.com/tracking202/redirect/dl.php?t202id=467&t202kw=courier&gclid=CKy2xoyh6JUCFRSO1Qod0khFfA

Tracking202 then forwards this onto the URL I specified:

http://www.******.com/couriers?sub=10647

However, as you can see the gclid variable has been lost in the redirect.

This causes problems as the Google Analytics tracking code in the landing page does not see the gclid variable and see the traffic as organic rather than PPC.

Does anyone know how I can get the gclid variable passed onto the landing page so it will be something like:

http://www.******.com/couriers?sub=10647&gclid=CKy2xoyh6JUCFRSO1Qod0khFfA

Many thanks for any advice

Rob

Hey rob how familiar are you with PHP?

You could put up the gclid on your side, and then append it to the outgoing links if needed. let me know if that makes sense I can help you code if it needed, but you can do it with some php and cookies.

It seems like above URLs are for direct linking with cloaking. Correct me if I am wrong. So if you make cloacking off, it should work just fine without doing much of the programming. What you say, Wes?

No turning off cloaking won't pass the variable still.

You are trying to pickup the gclid variable, and then pass it to the next url, and in order to do this you have to pick it up, and then append it to the next redirect manually.

The only way to do this would be to cookie the variable in your own domain, run it through t202 which would have it go back to your domain, and then re-append the cookied variable to your link, and then redirect.

PPC >> my domain >> t202 >> my domain >> affiliate url

Hi Wes,

Thanks for your replies.

Although very helpful, I think the method proposed with cookies is a tad cumbersome and would slow down the process between user clicking the ad and viewing the page more than necessary.

The best way to achieve this by the looks of things would be to edit the file:

/tracking202/redirect/dl.php

So that the redirect does append the gclid variable if it exists (i.e.):

if (isset($_GET['gclid'])) {

$redirect_url .= "&gclid={$_GET['gclid']}";

}

However, it looks like the file dl.php is encrypted with zen optimizer.

Is there anyway you could send me an open copy of this file or possibly re-write this change in and encrypt it back up?

Sorry to be a pain, but it is pretty fundemental. I am embarking on a SEO campaign and so it is vital to keep organic and PPC data separate in Google Analytics.

Thanks again for your help!

Rob

It would be fun if you post this fix please, I am about to code the exact same thing, and I know by the time I get an answer here I will have coded it myself, but next time please post the code snippets, or include it in future updates.
